#12 - Nelly Furtado's View
In Furtado's interview with the Globe and Mail, she did admit that she did donate the 1 million dollars in response to the trip she took to Kenya and that the money was from the private concert she gave to Moammar Gadhafi. I think that she is trying to right a wrong, however I don't think that she should be criticized for it. There are many artists that have preformed for Gadhafi and Furtado is first to publicly donate the money to a great cause. I think that she does feel better now about her choice and thankful that Free the Children are willing to accept the money, even with Gadhafi's name attached. I do support Free the Children's choice to accept the money as it will help many girls with getting an education and better way of life. While many will frown upon the Furtado's choice to do the concert in the first place, we must remember to look at the full picture. There are so many performers that have gotten millions more than Furtado did and have gone back again and again. The only reason that we aren't being cruel to those people is that they didn't publicly donate the 'dirty' money to build schools.
